BIEMH invites companies to position themselves at the forefront of change

During its international presentation in Hanover.

Hanover, 20.09.2017.- The International Machine-Tool Biennial was presented today in Hanover with “IN” for Industry 4.0, innovation, internationalisation, systems integration and productive intelligence. Its commitment to bring the new business models closer to the strategic sectors of the economy is unmistakably set out in its claim for 2018: “BE IN, BIEMH”.

Therefore, in its 30th edition, “the event will extend its condition as a leading platform in advanced manufacturing with new spaces, products and exhibitors”, as announced by Xabier Basañez, CEO of Bilbao Exhibition Centre, during the presentation of the event, which took place at the Juaristi, Nicolás Correa and Zayer stands at the EMO Fair. “It will consist of five days to focus on the new approaches and concepts and to discover first-hand the most innovative solutions and experiences in smart manufacturing. These solutions enable an ever more demanding market to be faced and offer interesting growth prospects for us, the fair itself”, explained Basañez.

BIEMH 2018 will incorporate a new space, BE DIGITAL, devoted to the digital transformation of machines and the whole manufacturing process, which is essential in order to compete in international markets and offer a better product or service. The conference-exhibition will address the great challenges faced in the management of big data, cyber-security, Internet of Things or software solutions for automation, among many other aspects. In parallel, the third edition of ADDIT3D will be held. Additive and 3D manufacturing have become a central theme amongst experts in production and it is an essential complementary technology for the machine-tool industry, and it is growing exponentially. The offer will be rounded off with the WORKINN Industrial Employment Forum.

“Today, technology undoubtedly enables unprecedented levels of competitiveness and profitability to be reached”, highlighted Basañez to representatives of international companies, entities and media at the end of his presentation, adding that the “30th edition of BIEMH is probably presented as one of the most ambitious of its history, facilitated by the recovery of the industrial production and consumption market”.

In this respect, a change in trend was noticed in 2016 with 13% more visitors and orders in all sectors. In total, 1,533 exhibitors participated in the fair, which was attended by 40,000 visitors. In line with this positive evolution, this year’s exhibitors marketing campaign is recording significant growth compared with the same period in 2016 and the number of repeating companies is also high, which are namely representatives of the event’s leading sectors: machinery, process automation, tools and components and metrology.

As for the visitors’ programme, emphasis will be placed on the international aspect, offering exhibitors the possibility of proposing clients and potential clients from foreign markets, who will be invited to form part of the purchaser’s delegations.

Xabier Ortueta, CEO of AFM-Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, Jesús Mindegia, Sales Manager at Juaristi, José Ignacio Nicolás Correa, President of Nicolás Correa, and Ricardo Diego, Export Area Manager at Zayer, also participated in the act.

Xabier Ortueta, CEO of AFM-Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, was optimistic during his presentation. “We have great expectations for the next edition; the Spanish industry needs to renew its equipment in order to be competitive and the exhibiting companies at BIEMH will have the opportunity to interact with visiting clients intent on making purchases and real investment projects”, he assured.

Ortueta also wanted to highlight the fact that BIEMH 2018 will incorporate the 3rd edition of ADDIT3D, thanks to the collaboration of Bilbao Exhibition Centre and ADDIMAT, an initiative that was introduced in 2016 and repeated in 2017. “Having a parallel space on additive manufacturing will enable a growing number of companies who are committed to this technology of the future to be embraced, which opens up new possibilities in the world of manufacturing technologies”, he assured.

To round off, the CEO of AFM highlighted the importance of the exhibiting companies at BIEMH: “we believe that the best way of explaining to you all what the next BIEMH will be like is allowing you to listen to the live testimony of those companies who come year after year, their arguments and their rating of what they expect”.

The first presentation in the exhibitors section was by Jesús Mindegia, Sales Manager at Juaristi, who highlighted the value of BIEMH as a showcase for external projection and a benchmark specialised fair. “We are delighted to take part in this presentation of BIEMH where we started to exhibit at the beginning, as it is a magnificent showcase for industrial production, bringing together Spanish purchasers and investors as well as those from other European countries, particularly France and Portugal. It also stands out as a benchmark event in the South American markets, whereby there are usually many visitors from these markets”, he assured.

Mindegia also explained that “BIEMH is a fair specialised in high technology machines with high performance and precision in which the supply of large parts stands out, precisely the type of machines that we manufacture at Juaristi. As is common in the sector, our company stands out for its high level of internationalisation. What is certain is that we have had to go abroad to sell our milling machines, boring machines and machining centres, and therefore we are particularly grateful for the opportunity that BIEMH offers us to meet our customers and find out first hand their impressions of our products and above all, their future needs. What awaits the digital industry connected to us, how should we evolve our machines, how can we help to increase the performance of different industries, is what we find out at fairs like BIEMH. For this reason, we like to come to Bilbao every two years.”

As for José Ignacio Nicolás Correa, President of Nicolás Correa, he made a brief review of the technological evolution and its effects, and the importance of BIEMH as an event for appropriate investment decision-making. “We have been participating in the BIEMH since 1964. In the early years, access to foreign technology was very complex and the domestic market was the main source of business. We gradually advanced in technology and consequently gained access to other markets and sectors, which led to a consolidation process of the industry in which manufacturers have been transforming or merging to remain in a highly competitive global market”, he assured.

“Nowadays, although the majority of exhibitors at BIEMH have a significant source of business and investment in other countries (we sell 90% of our production in over 20 countries), we also maintain an important presence in the domestic market. In recent years, the market situation has not been favourable, although much improvement and greater dynamics have been seen in the past three years. We are finally hearing customers talk enthusiastically about their workload, future prospects and investment. For us, it is important to attend BIEMH, because it is an excellent opportunity to discover the technologies available and bring them closer and make them more accessible so as to continue improving the competitiveness of our customers. Investment in state-of-the-art technology is key in the development of a powerful and connected industry that guarantees the competitiveness of our country, and to take the first step towards the right kind of investment, BIEMH is the appropriate place”, he underlined.

Finally, Ricardo Diego, Export Area Manager at Zayer, placed special emphasis on ensuring that “for ZAYER, BIEMH is a not to be missed event in the international circuit of fairs. We export to practically all countries in the world and we visit numerous fairs, but BIEMH stands out from all of them as it is our link to the domestic market. It is a good place to check out and test the new developments that we will go on to launch in other countries. It enables us to meet our customers, suppliers, fellow colleagues and even our most direct competitors”.

“We are a veteran company at BIEMH, which we first attended in 1962 (the 2nd Machine-Tool Technical Fair) and we will continue to participate in it for many years. For us, talking about BIEMH is talking about machine-tools, productivity, competitiveness and innovation. We like to highlight that our solutions influence the ability to compete and profitability for the rest of the industrial sectors”, said Diego, who rounded off his presentation with a positive outlook for the 30th edition of the event: “in the 2018 edition, we hope that the growth trend which began in 2016 will continue and enable us to enjoy a fair in which investors and purchasers attend in masses to discover and purchase the cutting-edge technology that our companies can offer”.

BIEMH, which is organised by Bilbao Exhibition Centre and AFM-Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, with the collaboration of the Basque Government and AIMHE, Machine Tool Importers Association of Spain, will hold its 30th edition from 28th May to 1st June 2018.
