Machine-Tool renove plan

MACHINE-TOOL RENOVE PLAN BRINGS IN INDUCED INVESTMENT TO THE TUNE OF €107 M

The 2014 Renove plan for the replacement of industrial machinery, set up by the Basque Government and managed by SPRI, has been described as a great success: the €9.5 million in funding provided by the Basque Government has brought in induced investment to the tune of €107 million.

Juan Ignacio García de Motiloa, Basque Government Junior Minister for Industry, announced these figures at a press conference at which he was accompanied by Alex Arriola, General Manager of SPRI, Antxon López, Chair of AFM (Association of Machine-Tool Manufacturers – given that the machine-tool sector is the main beneficiary of the programme) and Xabier Basáñez, General Manager of the BEC.

Mr. Garcia de Motiloa explained the main goal pursued with the Renove Plan: to help Basque companies to become better prepared to overcome the crisis by acquiring new machinery with which they will be capable of competitively handling increased orders.

“The extraordinary demand revealed”, he went on to say, “shows that the programme caters for a real need at Basque companies, and that the government was right to introduce it.  Moreover, it shows that co-operation between the public and private sectors continues to be a distinctive feature of the industrial policies that we must apply, and that Basque companies and the entrepreneurs that lead them have made major efforts to invest in becoming more competitive and more productive and in improving working conditions at their plants”.

SPRI General Manager Alex Arriola stressed how closely his organisation worked with companies in setting up joint initiatives and learning their needs.

AFM Chair Antxón López Usoz, for his part, highlighted the importance of the Renove Plan for his sector, and the efforts that it entailed for private companies to make such investments taking into account the uncertainty that continued to prevail in the market.

Finally, Xabier Basañez stressed the importance of making this announcement of the results of the Renove Plan during the 28th BIEMH, an event that seeks to be the cornerstone for the recovery of the sector.
