India’s GDP is now growing at 7%, a faster rate than that of China. This has brought a large group of buyers from firms in search of technology to the BEC this week. The chance to see ADDIT3D and check out the potential for applying this technology at his firm is one of the main reasons why Santosh Porwal, a partner in the Indian foundry and machining firm Shani Iron & Steel, is visiting the BEC for the first time this week. His company is looking for prototyping solutions for small production runs with low volumes, but is also interested in the automation, software, CAD/CAM and machine-tool sectors showcased at the BIEMH. For MTi, a British-based distribution firm that leads the field in its sector and has a workforce of 300 all over the country, this is its third time at a BIEMH. Deputy chair Nitin Mehra assures that Spanish machinery is rated as a high quality product at very competitive prices, and that his firm is therefore seeking to extend its portfolio of manufacturers with a focus on technology aimed at the railway and aeronautics industries.
Major automotive manufacturers such as Citroen, Peugeot, Mercedes and Renault have recently set up businesses in Algeria. As a result, Algerian firms are seeking to strengthen their ancillary industries with new partners and suppliers, and with new trade agreements. It is with that in mind that Tayeb Siad, manager of the automotive component firm SIAD has come to the BEC.
The Chinese delegation is one of the most numerous. Their intention is also centred on the automotive industry. On his first visit to the BIEMH the chairman of the Shanghai Mould Trade Association, which has 700 member companies with a joint turnover of 300 billion yuans, stressed the good position of its machinery in the world ranking: “the Chinese market needs many high-quality, multifunctional machines”, he assured, “and we want to see first-hand the standard of companies in this country, which we have assessed very highly”.
