The mechanical engineering sector is the largest employer in Bavaria, accounting for 17.1% of the total workforce – ahead of the automotive industry. However, with sales of € 60.6 billion in 2022, it comes in second place (13.8%) behind the automotive industry (29.1%). Mechanical engineering exports account for around two thirds of this figure. As one of the major EU member states, Spain represents an important market for the Bavarian mechanical engineering industry.
