3 March 1961: A historic date for BIEMH

63 years ago today, on 3 March 1961, the first International Machine Tool Biennial of all time took place. It was a pioneering event that marked a before and after in the industry. It was the first monographic event in Spain and it was held at the historic Bilbao Trade Fair.

Featuring the sector’s leading companies, the latest innovations in machine tools and attended by thousands of Spanish and foreign visitors, this first Fair laid the foundations for an event that would catalyse advances and collaborations in the industry at a global level.

The figures for the exhibition, with machines presented by a total of 226 firms, exceeded all expectations, giving rise to an event with an unbroken upward trajectory which, in its third edition and now a biennial event, had more than 400 exhibiting companies and 4,000 tonnes of machinery.

Today, 3 March 2024, only three months from the start of its 32nd edition, BIEMH is one of the most eagerly awaited events for the sector; a crucial gathering that brings together supply and demand, and does a tremendous job of promoting innovation and technological development in the machinery-tool and advanced manufacturing industry.

Representing a broad spectrum of the sector in its exhibition area and featuring an enriched content agenda, BIEMH 2024 promises to offer a first-class industrial show, further consolidating its position as a world leader in smart manufacturing events.
