During the celebration of the International Machine Tool Biennial, the 15th National Award for Innovation in Advanced and Digital Manufacturing, organized by AFM Cluster with the support of BEC and Beaz (Innovation Agency of Bizkaia), was held this morning at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC).

The awards ceremony was presided over by Ainara Basurko, Deputy for Economic Promotion of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, who was accompanied by Xabier Basañez, General Manager of BEC, José Perez Berdud, President of AFM Cluster and Xabier Ortueta, General Manager of AFM Cluster.

The jury, made up of Beaz, Bic Gipuzkoa, CDTI, Eide, Ergogroup, Ihobe, Mondragon Unibertsitatea, Osalan, Spri, Tecnun-University of Navarra and University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) took into account technological and innovation criteria, sustainability and safety, as well as design and communication when deciding on the awards.

The prize for Innovation in Machine Tools was awarded to ONA EDM for its “ONA HALLEY Fast Hole EDM Drilling Machine”, which the jury valued for its disruptive technological breakthrough in EDM through the development of a totally new technology.

In this same category, the jury agreed to award a special mention to the company LAGUN MACHINERY for its “5-axis machining center Model EVZ630”.

The Award for Innovation in additive manufacturing and 3D printing went to SAMYLABS for its “ALBA 300: Metal 3D printer with LBPBF technology”. The Jury wanted to reward the technological progress of this company in recent years that has led them to offer a highly competitive product.

The Prize for Innovation in the integration of digitalization and automation concepts in advanced manufacturing systems was awarded to FAGOR AUTOMATION for its “HMIelite: Human Machine Interface (HMI) System”. The jury valued the aspects related to cybersecurity, with a product that offers high flexibility, adaptability and customization for the end user.

SAMYLABS has repeated the award in the category of most innovative startup where companies that have submitted their candidacy in any of the first three categories (machines, additive and digitalization) participate. SAMYLABS has received the award for its significant journey in the development of a new product up to its certification and industrialization.

In addition, the Innovation Awards ceremony hosted one more award, the AFM-SIF (Manufacturing Engineering Society) Award for the best final year project 2024 related to the machine tool sector. The award went to Ignacio Repiso López, from the University of Málaga, with the project “Application of neural networks for the study of the surface integrity of dry-turned parts made of aluminum alloy UNS A97075”
